Fortec has hired Tony Tompkins as its new Network Director to work with the Regional Commercial Managers to develop the network.

Arvato has won a 5 year, £10 million contract with Bosch UK.  Arvato will supply over 15 national retail customers with over 1 million units across a range of over 170 different products.  Stock will be stored and distributed from Arvato's distribution hub in Hams Hall, Birmingham.

Yusen Logistics is launching in Germany on 1st October 2011.  It will unite NYK Logistics Germany and Yusen Air & Sea Service in the final phase of a European integration process.

Gefco UK has appointed Tristan Balayn as its new Managing Director.  Tristan will be responsible for all UK activities.

Import Services is targeting the port centric logistics market with the opening of a facility in Southampton.

Stan Robnson (Stafford) ltd has won a contract with Plastribution.  The contract is worth £750,000 and covers warehousing space for 2,500 pallets and 35-40 national palletised deliveries per day. 

Tesco has got planning permission for a 900,000 sqft distribution warehouse at Whitely, South Reading.  It is estimated that the warehouse will be operational by Christmas 2012.

Kuehne & Nagel has won a contract with French Connection for 5 years.  The operation is based at the facility near Thurrock, Essex.  Kuehne & Nagel is responsible for the storage, picking, packing and distribution of boxed and hanging garments throughout the UK.

Expert Logistics has taken on a new 360,000 sqft warehouse in Crewe.

DHL Has expanded its services for the Life Sciences & Healthcare and other industries with the introduction of the DHL Smart Sensor GSM.  The Smart Sensor GSM makes it possible to monitor the transport of highly sensitive shipments anytime and anywhere.  In addition to measuring the temperature during transport, the new high-tech device also measures humidity, shocks, brightness and location.

Century Logistics has won a contract with Hookes.  Century Logistics will distribute furniture and giftware to stores and retailers throughout the UK & Ireland from its warehouse in Thetford.

Oakland International has won a contract with Freilacke UK.  Oakland will carry out storage and distribution of powder coatings, liquid paints, paint adhesives and thinners throughout the UK.

SBS Worldwide has won a contract with McGraw Hill Education.  SBS will manage the logistics of cargo being delivered to the McGraw Hill Education EMEA headquarters in Maidenhead, Berkshire which will include inbound shipments from locations such as USA, Australia, Hong kong and Singapore.  It will also facilitate a drop shipment service for direct delivery to the customer's publishers and their respective freight shippers.

Culina Group has appointed Glynn Davies as its Non-Executive Director.  Glynn brings with him a wealth of experience in the road transport and haulage sectors built up over 50 years.  Culina Group plans to double the business within the next 5 years through organic growth and strategic acquisition.

DHL Global Forwarding has taken full ownership of LifeConEx, the Life Sciences cold chain logistics provider.

Spatial Group has appolinted Bryan Hindle as its new Managing Director.  Bryan came from ND Overseas where he was the Commercial Manager for the UK.

Norbert Dentressangle has won a contract with Cullen Packaging (Scottish box manufacturer).  Norbert Dentressangle will collect orders from the company's major manufacturing facility in Glasgow, to make next day deliveries via its shared-user network throughout the UK.

City link has won a contract with Daiwa Sports worth £250,000 per year for the delivery of angling accessories across the UK.

Rhys Davies Freight Logistics has won a contract with Kenton Floors (flooring manufacturer).  Rhys Davies collects from Kenton's factory in Caerphilly on a daily basis for next day delivery to retailers, carpet suppliers and professional flooring installers throughout the UK.

The Geodis Group has strengthened its position in the healthcare market and consolidated its offering with the acquisition of pharmaceuticals pre-wholesaler 'Pharmalog'.

Ceva Logistics has won a contract with Lavazza for the distribution of its products throughout Portugal and Spain.  Ceva Logistics will manage the inbound logistics for goods arriving from Lavazza's factory in Italy, as well as the storage of all products before onward delivery to customers in Spain and Portugal.  Ceva Logistics is already responsible for logistics operations at the Italian central warehouse in Turin.

Gist picked up the prize for Supply Chain Technology at the Retail Week Supply Chain awards 2011.

The Board of Directors of Kuehne & Nagel International AG has decided to prolong the contracts of Chief Executive Officer Reinhard Lange until the end of 2013, of Chief Financial Officer Gerard Van Kesteren until mid 2014 and of Executive Vice President Contract Logistics and Rail & Road Logistics, Dirk Reich until the end of 2014.

Geodis Calberson has been awarded a rolling contract from Computer 2000 for the storage of 600 pallets of pre-ordered IT products at its Magna Park site in Leicestershire.  Magna Park will also act as an overflow for Computer 2000 main site nearby in Lutterworth and orders will be picked and dispatched on a daily basis via the Fortec Distribution network.

Bibby Distribution has purchased a 108,000 sqft warehouse in Middleton Park, Manchester to facilitate a wider range of services and to grow  customers' stockholding capacity.

Yodel has won a contract with Pet Supermarket for the distribution of pet supplies across the UK.

Advanced Supply Chain has won a £24 million contract with Makro for the distribution of full pallets of ambient products.

Nightfreight's 3 year development plan for growth is starting to pay dividends.  Progress has been made in 2010 through investment in vehicle telematics and innovation which is bolstering revenues.  Nightfreight predicts pre-tax profits of £2 million for the year ending November 2011 with turnover around £123 million.  Its forecasts for 2012 is pre-tax profits of £4.6 million and revenues of £130 million.

Norbert Dentressangle has renewed its contract with La Pallette Rouge (LPR) for a further 3 years.  Norbert Dentressangle is responsible for the delivery of pallets to LPR's UK customers and for the collection of pallets from the FMCG and Food Service sectors and for the maintenance of LPR's UK pallet pool including the inspection, reconditioning and repair of damaged pallets.

BAA has put its logistics contract for the Heathrow Consolidation Centre out to tender.  The incumbent company is DHL which won the contract for two-and-a-half years and was worth up to £22.5 million.

Wincanton has hired Guy Elliott as its Managing Director Contract Logistics UK & Ireland.

Hellman UK has won a contract with My London Girl.  Hellman will handle all of the retailer's freight forwarding and logistics requirements, including all air and sea freight, warehousing and direct delivery to shops.

DHL Supply Chain has extended its contract with Telia (Swedish Telecoms company) for a further 2 years.  DHL Supply Chain handles its national spare parts logistics activities.  DHL continues to be responsible for the time-critical handling of spare parts needed for the repair and maintenance of the Telia's fixed broadband networks.  DHL also handles customer-placed equipment such as switches and routers and manages the administration and returns management processes to the repair shops.

Allport has renewed its contract with Sainsburys for a further 2 years for the handling of non-food direct imports.

Comet is working on plans to consolidate its 14 regional service centres to 2 sites and reducing the warehouse network from 3 to 2 as part of a retender of its logistics services.

Unipart Group is selling its controlling stake in Unipart Automotive to H2 Equity Partners.  Unipart Group will continue to own 49.9% of the business.

Regatta is setting up a new distribution centre in Ellesmere Port which will serve the UK & European markets and be operational by November 2011.

Huisman International Group BV has appointed Tony Alexander as its new Commercial Director.  Tony will develop new business opportunities with the company.  Huisman Group is a company engaged in the supply chain between mainland Europe and the United Kingdom and Ireland and has its headquarters in Wijchen, the Netherlands, together with warehousing and transport facilities in Corby.

Fiege has won a contract with Moema Espresso Republic GmbH.  Fiege will be responsible for organising sea bound and truck transport in addition to the necessary processes for importing the ready-to-sell packaged coffee for storage, order picking and distribution from Fiege's Mega Centre in Hamburg to end customers throughout Europe.

Yusen Logistics has appointed Colin Eales as its new Sales Manager.  Colin will be responsible for developing the company's supply chain solution products for the retail sector.

Torque Logistics has renewed its contract with Pringle.  Torque handles imports, processing, storage and picking and despatch and provides fulfillment for Pringle's retail stores in the UK & The Netherlands.  It also covers online orders and wholesale customers and handles around 80,000 units per year.

DHL Supply Chain is targeting the Chinese solar panel makers with a new distribution facility at Moerdijk, The Netherlands.

Norbert Dentressangle has published its interim results for H1 2011:

  • Revenues €1,706 million, up 21.9% on H1 2010
  • EBITDA €123.7 million, up 25% on H1 2010
  • Operating Profit before Goodwill (EBITA) €58.9 million, up 30% on H1 2010
  • EBITA Margin 3.4%
  • Net Income €30.9 million, up 58% on H1 2010
