Wincanton has won a contract with Lafarge Cement UK.  Wincanton will deliver around 2 million tonnes of bagged and bulk cement from sites across the UK.

Oakland International has won the award for Best Logistics at this year's Checkout National FMCG Awards 2011.

Geodis Wilson has appointed Gilbert den Bekker as its new Vertical Director for Retail & Fashion.  Gilbert comes from DHL and will now be in charge of developing and expanding the company's logistics services in the retail and fashion sectors worldwide.

Spatial Logistics has appointed Jil Towersey to the position of Commercial Development Manager.  Jil joins from Ceva Logistics and she will be responsible for driving and directing the Commercial team and developing the company's products.

Norbert Dentressangle has opened a new 10,745 sqm shared-user cold store at Miramas in the Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur region in the South of France.  The facility provides storage for 8,500 pallets.  The Miramas site will serve around 85 customers providing a complete frozen storage and distribution service to around 1,500 delivery points from Perpignan to Monaco.

The Goodman Group has announced it will develop a 64,462 sqm turnkey facility for Stanley Black & Decker at Tessenderlo, in Limburg Province, Belgium.  The distribution centre will serve customers in Benelux, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia.

Syncreon has leased a 50,000 sqm facility at Prologis Park, Tilburg DC3 in The Netherlands.  This is the third of three units in the area.

APC Overnight has won a contract with Chint Group (Chinese electricals manufacturer).  The contract is for handling next day parcel deliveries for its UK division.

City Link has opened a new 3,345 sqm depot in Bournemouth.  This new facility will serve 240 customers across Bournemouth, Salisbury, Weymouth, Lyme Regis and New Milton and will handle 25,000 deliveries and 18,000 collection per week.

Carrefour France has appointed Jerome Le Bleis  as its new Supply Chain Director.  Jerome comes from Nestle Waters where he is currently Head of Lean.

Clipper Group has won a contract with Shoedazzle to be its sole UK e-fulfillment provider.  Clipper will manage Shoedazzle's entire e-fulfillment operation, including receiving stock from suppliers, providing warehouse and storage solutions and despatching via nominated parcel carriers to domestic customers.

Norbert Dentressangle has won a 5 year contract with Carlsberg to be its primary logistics partner in the UK.  Carlsberg will continue to distribute its own and other 3rd party brands to pubs and free-trade customers through its own secondary on-trade distribution network.  From Febrruary 2012, Norbert Dentressangle will take responsibility for all Carlsberg's UK primary distribution including managing the flow of materials into and out of the Carlsberg brewery in Northampton, management of the container yard, involving receipt, sorting and inspection of empty kegs and management of Carlberg's NDC in Northampton.  It will also be responsible for primary transport of both small pack products into retailers' RDCs, kegged product into Carlsberg's own secondary distribution network and movement of tanked beer for major events.

Yusen Logistics has opened a new operation in Stourton, Leeds.  This facility has replaced the Castleford site and will play a key strategic role  as an inland import centre.

Wincanton has appointed Steve Marshall as its new Non-Executive Chairman from the 14th December 2011.

DSV Road has extended its contract with Gurit UK for a further 2 years.  DSV transports full and part loads from Gurit UK production site to the rest of Europe.  It also offers DSV the opportunity to provide road freight services for certain inbound shipments to Gurit's UK production site.

Viridor (renewable energy and waste management company) has bought JWS Churngold (waste logistics and transport solutions provider) for the Lancashire PFI waste operation for £14.25 million.  Waste will be transported from Lancashire and Blackpool local authorities transfer stations to Global Renewables' PFI Treatment facilities at Thornton and Leyland and then carries materials for recycling or disposal.  This is part of its strategy of expanding its activities, particularly in the contracts and recycling sectors.

Farrall's Transport has won a contract with Dandy Rock salt for 2 years worth £10 million.  Farrall's Transport will distribute all of Dandy's Spring & Summer goods from their garden related websites, DandyTopsoil.co.uk and DandysGardencentre.co.uk.

Brit European has extended its contract with Mercedes-Benz.  Brit European is the British link of a supply chain for all vehicles, that stretches from the manufacturers factories in Germany to its dealers and body builders in the UK.  New vehicles are transported from the manufacturer's factories down the Rhine River on bharges and shipped across the North Sea.  The ships dock at either Purfleet or Killingholme.  Brit European is responsible for the final leg of the journey.

Ceva Logistics has renewed its contract with Magnetti Marelli Aftermarket Parts and Services division for a further 4 years.  Ceva manages the customers logistics at the hub of San Pietro Mosezzo, near Novara, within a 28,000 sqm dedicated area.  It also provides services for handling, stocking and packaging of spare parts.

Amazon has opened a 1 million sqft distribution centre at Dunfermline.  It will distribute a wide range of items to Amazon customers all over the UK, Europe and The World.

Tibbett Logistics has been awarded ISO 9001 quality certification for all its logistics operations.

Wickes is to experiment with a small scale town centre store format.  It has begun testing smaller town centre showrooms for its bathroom and kitchen offer last year.

Mothercare has put its entire UK business under review after reporting half-year losses of over £80 million.  The Group has already announced it is cutting 110 UK stores but said it will look to adjust the size and shape of its business in line with current conditions.  No further store closures are planned but Alan Parker (Executive Chairman) said 'nothing was ruled in or ruled out'.

Allport has extended its contract with Pets at Home for a further 3 years.

Fiege Group who handles logistics for Bridgestone in several European countries, has begun supplying the Swiss market via cross-border distribution from its facility in Lahr, Germany.  This has transformed the Fiege facility in Lahr from a national distribution warehouse into an internationally operating distribution centre.

DHL appoints Amadou Diallo as its new Chief Executive Officer for DHL Freight.  Amadou will be responsble for DHL's international road & rail freight services

DHL has appointed Thomas George as its new Chief Operating Officer for DHL Global Forwarding.  Thomas will be responsible for Global Air and Ocean Freight operations including value-added services and all other operating functions.

DHL Supply Chain has developed 'DHL Secure Box', a system for transporting high value goods which uses a computer based locking mechanism for added security.  This solutuion is aimed at the hi-tech sector.

Wincanton has renewed its warehousing and distribution contract with Heinz for a further 4 years.  It will deliver around 92 million cases per year and will now handle all customer orders up to 6,000 per month across all temperature ranges.

DHL Supply Chain has won a contract with Westfield Stratford City.  DHL Supply Chain will provide consolidation and dock management delivery services for the shopping centre for the next 5 years.  It will also operate the consolidation platford 8 miles from the shopping centre allowing retailers and suppliers to deliver stock into the warehouse with 24 hour availability and assisted deliveries.  The consolidation centre provides retailers with a range of additional services, including pre-agreed preferred delivery windows, secure off-site storage and stock delivered direct to store.

Wincanton has set out its intention to increase margins by focusing on added value services such as streamlining customers' supply chains and providing systems capabilities for multi-channel retailing.  It has published its interim results for the 6 months to 30th September 2011 and here's some key figures:

DHL Supply Chain is building a 40,000 sqm logistics centre in Monchengladbach, Germany for Primark.  The new distribution centre will handle shipments for Primark stores located in Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands and will be operational by mid-2012.

Kesa has announced plans to sell off Comet to a private equity firm 'Hailey Acquistions'.

Ceva Logistics has published its financial results for Q3 ended 30th September 2011:

Allport has renewed its contract with House of Fraser for a further 3 years commencing March 2012.  Allport manages international inbound logistics for the company.

Culina has launched Culina Fresh as a separate operating business within the Group.  Culina Fresh is a door-to-door freight management service incorporating road, rail, sea and air transport for fresh produce, horticulture and other perishable goods.  This will operate from 2 locations; Heathrow airport and Valencia.  Heathrow airport will provide offices and warehousing to coordinate airfreight operations.  Valencia, Spain has also been chosen for its proximity to the region where the company expects to manage significant volumes of fresh produce.  The company also works with partners in North America, South America, Eastern and Southern Africa and also the Far East.

Yodel have designed a new portfolio of global delivery services called Yodel World.  By forming partnerships with key players, KMUK Universal Solutions, Belgium Post International and TNT Post, Yodel World can offer a range of services and include a mixture of postal and commercial delivery options.

Carphone Warehouse has confirmed it is to close its 11 Best Buy stores in the UK.  The news follows a decision by the Group's founder, Charles Dunstone to sell his stake in a UK mobile phone joint venture with Best Buy.  The company's European arm has not performed well financially.

Fiege has won a contract with Schwarze und Schlichte.  Fiege will be responsible for production care, management of the central warehouse for Germany and Europe plus customs bonded warehouse for Spirits, final national distribution targetting specialised trade and retail trade as well as value-added services such as building displays and preparation of products for dispatch.  Fiege collects products from the Rinteln production site and stores around 3,000 pallets at the central Bocholt multi-user warehouse.

DHL Supply Chain has expanded its contract with Telefonica.  DHL Supply Chain now provides claims assessment and repair services to O2 Insure.  DHL Supply Chain uses warehouse stock to fulfill accepted insurance claims, backfilling the inventory once replacements from the manufacturer has been received.

Norbert Dentressangle has won a contract with Bradnam Joinery for the delivery of products in Scotland.

Bibby Distribution has won a contract with Ryvita.  Bibby Distribution will manage the transport operation using its shared-user vehicle fleet managed from a 140,000 sqft facility in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire which is also the hub of warehousing and transport activities for sister company Jordans.

Hellman Worldwide Logistics has appointed Carsten Fuhlendorf as its new Chief Financial Officer.
