31st March 2011 NYK Group has set out its next business plan for the medium term. It is called 'Glow with Asia, expand across the globe'. It has as its targets the following: Sales from £14.8 million (2010) to £20.7 billion (2016) while recurring profit is forecast to increase from £920 million (2010) to £1.3 billion (2016). Geodis Calberson has appointed Alban Trompette as its new Head of Logistics or the UK. Alban is responsible for growing the business in the UK. DHL Freight has won a 3 year contract with Skanska Stormsystem worth €1.7 million. The contract is for the transportation of prefabricated concrete within Sweden. Norbert Dentressangle has now completed its takeover of TDG following approval by the European Commission. The transaction values the share capital of TDG's parent Laxey Logistics at £212 million. Norbert Dentressangle takes on a £30 million debt and it expects to make full year savings of £10.5 million. DHL continues to provide logistics support to Formula 1 in the 2011 season. DHL will provide the following services; importing team cars, moving replacement parts and handling fuel requirements. Also, DHL will provide a 24 hour service point at each track where an on-site team offers round-the-clock service for urgent shipments and customs clearance. 28th March 2011 P&O Ferrymasters has renewed its road transport contract with the BRITA Group for 5 years. Traffic from Germany to Italy and France has been retained under the latest contract after being regained in a review last year. The 2011 contract adds movements to the UK from BRITA's production sites near Wiesbaden (Germany) and at Neudorf (Switzerland) as well as shipments to Germany from the UK plant at Bicester. Gefco has published its financial results for 2010. Turnover is up 16% on 2009 to €3.4 billion. Operating Income is €198 million. Geodis has won a 6 year contract with YOOX Group. Geodis will manage YOOX's supply chain, coordinating the handling and shipping activities for fashion items as well as inventory management related to footwear and fashion accessories in storage, packaging, shipping and returns management. DHL Global Fowarding has launched a retail division to provide specialist services to global retailers. Howard Tenens has opened a depot in West Drayton (near Heathrow). The site handles drinks, vending machines and fish care products, including food, aquariums and medications for a major UK manufacturer with distribution across the UK. A study by KPMG suggests that mergers and acquisitions are likely to increase in logistics and transport in 2011. It suggests that firms are cutting their cost bases and will be looking to economies of scale for operational improvement. 21st March 2011 Culina Logistics has appointed Alistair Brown as its new Commercial Manager. Alistair was previously the Supply Chain Development Manager for the company. CButt has won a contract with Sealed Air and will distribute packaging from its manufacturing plant in Kettering. Oakland International has renewed its contract with Pork Farms. Oakland will distribute products to retailers in the UK. Ceva Logistics has won a contract with Husqvarna Motorcyles. Ceva will handle logistics activities in the customer's warehouse at Biandrohno plant in the province of Varese, Italy. Also, Ceva will manage Husqvarna personnel who are dedicated to receiving and warehousing of original motorcycle components and supplying them into production. Wincanton has won a contract with the Ministry of justice. Wincanton will provide prisoner escort and custody services for London and the East of England. 16th March 2011 Unipart has published its results for 2010:
Clipper Logistics has renewed its contract with The Crown Estate for a further 3 years. Clipper Logistics provides consolidated delivery services for Regent Street. This follows a 2 year pilot contract under which Central London store deliveries were consolidated outside the congestion charge zone in Brimsdown (Enfield). Deliveries are consolidated for multiple retailers and released from Clipper's warehouse to arrive at the stores at pre-determined times. Tradeteam has won a 6 year contract with Whitbread. Tradeteam will provide stock ownership, forecasting and replenishment services, order taking, warehousing and distribution and customer services. DHL Supply Chain has won a contract with Mettler Toledo. DHL Supply Chain will provide repair and maintenance services including remote and onsite maintenance and repair services of cargo scales, forklift scales and dimensions for parcels and pallets. Also it will provide, servicing, inspection, replacement of wear and tear parts, hardware, software and a helpdesk. Morrisons has secured planning permission for a 375,000 sqft RDC in Bridgwater, Somerset. MBL Group (home entertainment distributor) has put itself up for sale after Morrisons ended its contract with the distributor. MBL Group used to supply CDs and DVDs to the retailer and this is now being handled by Cinram. Culina Logistics has appointed Mark Oakley as its new Ambient Network Planning Manager. Mark will be responsible for developing the company's transport network in order to maximise efficiency levels through the integration of the company's ambient and chilled fleet. 14th March 2011 DHL Supply Chain is targetting the wind energy sector and will support the construction and maintenance of wind turbines. Kuehne & Nagel is expanding its relationship with Unilever's Supply Chain Company (USCC). It will now be carrying out co-packing activities in Romania. Kuehne & Nagel has been managing warehouse operations for Unilever's home and personal care product range in South East Europe in the Ploiesti facility. Deutsche Post DHL has published its results for 2010. The high-level results are as follows: 50% increase in its operating profit (underlying EBT) to €2.2 billion in 2010 while sales increased 11.4% to €51.5 billion. The Supply Chain division's results were; EBIT €274 million (2009: loss of €132 million) while sales increased by 9.2% to €13.3 billion. The Global Forwarding, Freight division's results were; underlying profit increased 42% to €390 million and sales increased 27.6% to €14.3 billion. DHL Supply Chain has won a 3 year, €10.6 million contract to consolidate equipment of Aero inventory (consumables and expendables dealer that works with Qantas, Air Canada and All Nippon Airways). DHL will create regional hubs in Canada, Hong Kong and Japan; after collecting material in these places, the company will then ship goods to Singapore. The facility in Singapore will expands to 70,000sqft. Ceva Logistics has won a 3 year contract with Mercedes-Benz. Ceva will be responsible for the distribution of parts from Mercedes-Benz warehouse at Caperna (nr Rome) by road to any point in Italy with guaranteed delivery by 1pm the next day for vehicle off road and urgent deliveries. Morrisons has invested in Fresh Direct, the New York-based specialist in home delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables. Damco has appointed Paul Gallagher as its new Chief Executive Officer in the UK & Ireland. Panalpina is targeting China, India and Brazil to drive growth in the future. Spar UK has appointed Debbie Robinson as its new Managing Director. 10th March 2011 Wincanton has won a 3 year £3 million contract with World Design & Trade. The contract is for handling the picking and packing and returns management from World Design's 90,000 sqft facility in Acton. Wincanton has won the gold award for its Houndstone site (nr Yeovil, Somerset). To achieve the SC21 (supply chain in the 21st century) award a company must demonstrate world class business performance in all aspects including delivery and services to customers, in internal business efficiency and furthermore a continuous sustainable improvement culture throughout the organisation. Wincanton achieved 99.98% performance in quality and 100% in delivery through a 12 month performance period on over 150,000 deliveries. Other performance criteria included business excellence and manufacturing excellence and all have to hit gold level standard to win a gold award. Norbert Dentressangle has won a contract to manage a second Chep service centre at Aveley (nr Thurrock, Essex) from April 2011. The 7.5 acre Aveley site serves Chep customers, both in the South East England and Mainland Europe. Norbert Dentressangle will be responsible for the inspection, repair, painting and despatch of around 6 million pallets per year. P&O Ferrymasters has renewed its contract with Samsung. P&O Ferrymasters deliver washing machines and refrigerators from its factory in Poland to the UK, France & Spain. Deutsche Post has appointed Roger Crook to board responsibility for DHL Global Forwarding, Freight. William Stobart and David Irlam are stepping down from the Stobart Group board. The Group said this would allow them to focus their leadership on the core transport and logistics divisions. They will remain directors with William Stobart as Chief Operating Officer and David Irlam responsible for Business Development. 2nd March 2011 Kuehne & Nagel, in line with its growth strategy and objective to significantly expand its European overland network, is acquiring RH Freight. Norbert Dentressangle opens a new 142,000 sqft warehouse in Centurion Park, Tamworth. Unipart has extended its contract with Homebase for the next 12 years. Unipart provides 430,000 sqft of warehouse space at Unipart's distribution centre in Cowley, Oxfordshire. Unipart also provides an import centre which processes imported products and provides warehousing and distribution services for products to stores across the UK. Ceva Logistics has appointed Juan Jose Yabar as Operations Director for Spain and Portugal. Ceva Logistics has appointed Marcello Ferrari as Managing Director for Greece. Gefco Turkey is launching a new 24/7 service at its new warehouse in Ankara (Anatolia), Turkey's largest logistics centre. Gefco is looking to establish a position in the construction market in the region. Goodman Group has signed a contract with Amazon to develop a 110,000 sqm logistics centre in Rheinberg, nr Duisburg (Germany). Geodis produced an Operating Profit of €35.1 million compared with a loss of €40.3 million in 2009. The group said that all divisions contributed to revenue growth, especially the freight forwarding division, which accounts for more than one-third of group revenue and which posted growth of 50.4%. Culina Logistics has renewed its contract with General Mills UK. Culina Logistics continues to provide national distribution and warehousing for General Mills' ambient products. Storage is carried out at Culina's depot in Wolverhampton, with picked orders subsequently being delivered to major food retailers, cash and carry outlets, wholesalers and other outlets across the UK. Norbert Dentressangle has won a 3 year, multi-million pound contract with JCB. Norbert Dentressangle makes evening collections of stock and vehicle off-road orders from JCB's world parts centre in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. Norbert Dentressangle will deliver to its network of 9 depots across the UK using a dedicated fleet. Orders are packed into pallet boxes and integrated into a shared-user network for through-the-night deliveries to guarantee dealers receive orders before they open at 7am the next day. The operation involves distributing to 100 JCB dealerships across the UK. Drivers also collect warranty returns and reusable packages left by the dealers in the overnight facilities.
