Acumen Automotive Logistics has won a 3 year contract with Chevrolet.  The contract is for the delivery of cars from Portbury docks to the Midlands, North Wales and Northern England.

Sainsbury's is reshuffling its management team with the following new appointments:

  • Roger Burnley - now Managing Director General Merchandise and Clothing & Logistics
  • Helen Buck - now Retail Director
  • Simon Twigger - now Convenience Business Unit Director
  • Richard Flemming - now Logistics Director

Norbert Dentressangle is targeting €1 billion in freight forwarding sales within the next 5 years, according to Dave Barron (Global Commercial Director, Norbert Dentressangle Overseas).  The focus will be on perishable goods such as fresh produce and flowers, frozen food and FMCG products.

Fiege Group has won a 3 year contract with Husqvarna.  Fiege will be the sole 3rd party logistics provider for Husqvarna finished goods, accessories and spare parts in the Ukraine and will manage warehousing operations, including acceptance, packaging, shipping and warehouse management.

Norbert Dentressangle has won an extension to an existing warehousing and distribution contract with Honda Trading Europe for the next 3 years.  Norbert Dentressangle transports around 600 containers per year from Southampton into a dedicated 78,000 sqft warehouse in Swindon.  Norbert Dentressangle also provides value added activities including component identification and segregation, labelling, lot code traceability, transfer of parts into the production line, lineside packaging control and obsolete stock management.  Norbert Dentressangle is also responsible for the just-in-time delivery of parts to the production line in Honda's engine plant and to the on-site sequencing centre which feeds the main car plant as well as national distribution of sub-assembly components to around 40 UK suppliers.

DB Schenker Logistics has won a contract with Kwintent AB to be its strategic logistics partner.  Kwintet has consolidated its warehousing activities from 2 locations in Sweden to DB Schenker Logistics' 25,000 sqm multi-user warehouse in Gothenburg.

Ceva logistics has appointed Guiseppe Chiellino as Managing Director for Ceva Italy.  Guiseppe is to be responsible for all Contract Logistics and Freight Management activities.

Wincanton has won a 3 year contract and had an extension for the next 3 years on a contract with Chevron.  Wincanton works with the Chevron Marine division to deliver bulk product from production plants in Leeds and packed product from Doncaster.  Wincanton also acts as port liaison manager and shipping agent, managing stocks and overseeing barge management as well as receiving packed imports from Belgium.  For Chevron Lubricants division, Wincanton delivers lubricating oil nationwide, carrying over 7.4 million litres annually to fulfill 2,300 customer orders.

DSV has delivered continued growth across all its divisions in 2011. The Company reported an increase in revenue of 2.7% in 2011, to DKK43,710.0 million (2010: DKK42,562.0 million), with organic growth reaching 2.1%. Gross profit came to DKK9,819.0 million (2010: DKK9,320.0 million), corresponding to a gross margin of 22.5% (2010: 21.9%)

Operating profit before special items came to DKK2,426.0 million (2010: DKK2,202.0 million), equivalent to organic growth of 10.7% and corresponding to an EBITA margin of 5.6% (2010: 5.2%) EBITA was positively impacted by activity increases in 2011 and the overall relatively stable cost levels. The improved margin was attributed to streamlining workflows and processes.

Profit before tax increased 20.2%, to DKK1,995.0 million (2010: DKK 1,660.0 million) largely due to higher volumes across the business and improved productivity. The profit for the year was DKK1,449.0 million (2010: DKK 1,194.0 million).

DSV is implementing a restructuring plan in order to improve productivity and adjust the cost base to match activity lavels.

Peacocks has been sold out of administration to Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM).  EWM has acquired the brand, 388 stores and concessions as well as the business headquarters and logistics functions.

TNT Express has announced that it has received an unsolicited, non-binding and conditional proposal from UPS for the acquisition of the whole of the issued capital of TNT Express at an indicative price of €9 per ordinary share.  The proposal has been rejected but the parties are still in discussions.

Kuehne & Nagel Group has implemented a worldwide cold chain education programme for which the company recently received the 'life science logistics partner of the year 2012' award.

PSA Peugeot Citroen intends to sell part of the equity of Gefco.  The CEO of PSA, Philippe Varin stated that his objective was to raise 'a bit more than €500 million'.  He asserted that Gefco was of strategic importance to PSA.  At the moment it is unclear what the future holds for Gefco.

Shutl has won a contract with Maplin to provide customers with deliveries within 90 minutes.  The new service will be available to over 60% of the UK's postcodes within the UK which will also be eligible to get online orders delivered within 1 hour delivery windows from 9am to 9pm, 7 days per week.

Eddie Stobart is taking occupation of the 67,689 sqft Pinnacle building at Eurocentral for the next 15 years.  The Pinnacle facility includes refrigeration capacity and will allow the company to meet the growing business demand from Central Scotland.

Norbert Dentressangle has established a new subsidiary business in order to grow the business in Ireland.  Norbert Dentressangle Logistics Ireland will provide innovative, high added value warehousing and distribution solutions across Ireland.

Gefco has reported its results for 2011.  Gefco's revenue has increased by 12.9% in 2011, including gains of 9.2% on services performed for other PSA Peugeot Citroën Group companies and 19.2% on services sold to customers outside the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group. Recurring operating income at Gefco rose 12.6%, to €223.0 million in 2011, on revenue of €3.78 billion. Recurring operating income as a share of revenue reached 5.9% in 2011, unchanged from 2010.  The drive to diversify Gefco’s customer base proved successful and the acquisition of a 70.0% stake in Mercurio in May 2011 will further speed up the process. Excluding this acquisition, organic growth in revenues from services sold to customers outside the Group came to 12.7%.

DHL Supply Chain has won an extension to an existing contract with Jeyes.  DHL Supply Chain is responsible for handling storage the of Jeyes' products, including inbound and outbound processing as well as inventory management.

Norbert Dentressangle has won a 3 year contract with Tetley Tea.  This means that Tetley Tea will be joining Norbert Dentressangle's collaboration project between Kellogg's and Kimberly-Clark.  Norbert Dentressangle will re-locate warehousing from its current warehouse at Newton Aycliffe, to its own Merlin warehouse in Manchester, which will be shared with existing occupant, Kellogg's.  In addiiton to product from Tetley and Kellogg's, Norbert Dentressangle's Manchester site will also consolidate product from Kimberly-Clark's northern distribution centre in Chorley prior to delivery to retail and wholesale customers throughout the UK.  Norbert Dentressangle will also be responsible for the linehaul of raw tea from the Port of Tyne into Tata Global Beverages' Eagles Cliffe manufacturing plant.

Harlequin has won a contract with Kellogg's.  Harlequin will distribute product from Kellogg's Manchester hub to retailer RDCs, wholesalers and cash-and-carry's across the UK.

Gefco has won a contract with World Machinery Works.  Gefco transports industrial equipment to an aerospace company near Paris.

Allport has won a 3 year contract with ASOS.  The contract is for the inbound logistics of product using Allport's freight services from the Far East, India Sub Continent, Americas and Australasia.

The Harveys furniture chain is to take over a 66,000 sqft distribution centre in Avonmouth.  It will use this distribution centre as its main distribution centre serving the South West and Wales.

Norbert Dentressangle has won a 3 year contract with Mazda for the distribution of automotive parts and accessories to franchised dealerships across the UK.  Norbert Dentressangle makes collections from Mazda's parts distribution centre in Staplehurst, Kent and delivers consignments to 170 dealers per night via its national shared-user night network.  Norbert Dentressangle makes up to 3,200 deliveries including parcels, roll cages and large cartons per week in overnight deliveries.

DB Schenker Logistics has appointed Helgilngolfsson as its new Managing Director replacing Jochen Muller.

ACS&T has extended its contract with Delta Foods.  ACS&T receives palletised goods for Delta from suppliers in the UK, Europe and Asia, before providing picking and distribution to more than 80 customers throughout the UK & Ireland.

Norbert Dentressangle has won a 5 year contract with House of Fraser.  Norbert Dentressangle will be responsible for the management of House of Fraser's 510,000 sqft e-fulfillment warehouse in Milton Keynes, including the receipt of goods from House of Fraser's NDC, concession suppliers and inter-store transfers, order picking, marshalling, packing, despatch and returns management.  Norbert Dentressangle will also be responsible for collating, picking and packing of orders for House of Fraser's wedding list service.

Kuehne & Nagel has won a contract with Roche.  Shipments originating from Roche's production plants are consolidated by Kuehne & Nagel and transported to Greece under temperature controlled conditions using the KN Pharmachain overland transport service.

Advanced Supply Chain has opened a 200,000 sqft operations centre in Birstall, Leeds.  Advanced Supply Chain is experiencing a huge demand from the UK clothing sector for pre-retailing operations in the UK.  As a result, this site will be run as an additional operations centre alongside its main pre-retail site in Holmfield, Halifax.

DHL Supply Chain has extended its contract with Nikken until 2014.  Nikken's complete distribution operations in Europe will be centralised at DHL Supply Chain's facility in Essen, Germany.  DHL Supply Chain will manage the entire product range of Nikken's products including bulky shipments such as mattress toppers and small items such as nutritional supplements.  DHL Supply Chain will manage all essential warehousing processes from quality control of incoming goods to pick and pack, repacking, relabelling, set building, returns processing and customs clearance.

DB Schenker Logistics has appointed Patrick Ziles as its new Head of Intermodal.  Patrick will be responsible for linking the different modes of transport efficiently, in particular DB Schenker Hangartner.  DB Schenker will continue to extend the range of products and services involving rail, both for transalpine traffic and for East-West connection in Europe.

Allport is rebranding as Allport Cargo Services folowing its merger with Hong Kong based CS Logistics Holding.

Ceva Logistics has won a 5 year contract with Intermas Nets SA.  Within the multi-user warehouse located in Subirats, (near Barcelona), Ceva will manage Intermas' inbound logistics, warehousing activities, order preparation and outbound logistics for 2,500 garden products which will then be distributed to 1,500 stores across Iberia.  The products have specific packaging and storage needs and must be kept at a constant humidity and handled with care.

Suttons Group has won a contract with Air Liquide UK.  Suttons will distribute gasses from nationwide sites directly to customers.
